" Death and the Maiden" sculpted mechanicall cameo necklace

by Thomas Kuntz 2017

This beautiful mechanical showpiece necklace is a wearable piece of art! It can also be displayed proudly in your parlor showcase curio collection. Combining the skills of the sculptor, jeweler and automaton maker with over 30 years of professional experience, this piece is a unique macabre treasure!

This piece was engineered to last with the main motion contacts made of brass, the sculpture is made from a hybrid resin and hand finished and painted. The " snake" chain extends from the hands of the gargoyle around the neck to clasps.

"Death and the Maiden" was inspired by Medievel Danse Macabre (Totentanz) art and literature. It is part of the Memento Mori series.... But it also features movement!

When the plunger section is pushed the gargoyle head raises and the skeleton and the maiden rock their heads...

You can see it in action on my Haxanthrobo Instagram profile or my YouTube "Haxanthrobo" channel. You will also see how these pieces are hand -made from scratch here at the studio in Los Angeles California, USA!

Thank you for visiting the curio!

FYI: The tools shown and the book titled "Dance of Death and the Macabre Spirit in European Literature " by Leonard P. Kurtz are not included in the sale. You can see this piece being designed here: https://vimeo.com/200313098
